Story

This second work from Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayat 19–28) expands the Surah’s vision of divine order through an oceanic and cosmic architecture rendered in intricate paper-cut calligraphy. The composition is built around meeting waters that remain distinct—an unseen boundary (barzakh) suggested through mirrored symmetry and a central divide—while the depths bloom with marine forms that speak of abundance hidden beneath the surface. Above, a ship rises “like mountains,” not only as a tribute to human craft but as a reminder that knowledge and capability are ultimately taught and granted. Pearls and coral emerge as luminous signs drawn from the unseen, and the recurring refrain—“Which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?”—circles the scene like a moral echo. At the top, impermanence is set against the Eternal, pulling the gaze upward from the temporary world toward the enduring Presence, so that sea, sky, and ornament become one meditation on balance, boundaries, and mercy.
